Asking for help is difficult

Many of us have waited, hesitated, wanted to take care of our problems by ourselves. Our society has opened up to the idea of seeking emotional help but we all carry fears and worries about being seen as, or feeling, weak for seeking help. The truth is that stronger people reach out for psychological assistance. It is important to wait for the right time, but the right time is often NOW.

I believe that respect for the people who come to see me is the most important aspect of what I do. I treat all people as equals, because we are all equal, we are human. We have all had difficulties, challenges, in our lives. While I generally do not share my personal history, I do give people the feeling that I do, in fact, understand a lot of what they are feeling and experiencing. I make every effort to be sure that I do actually understand what they are talking about, I do not make assumptions. We are complicated beings, whose feelings and thoughts shift frequently. We have many facets of ourselves and each facet is significant. It is most important to sift, carefully, through a person's life experiences in order to understand how that person came to this point in their life. Then it is important to try different ways of resolving a problem. I give support, interpretations and suggestions, I don't tell people what to do.
